CHICAGO FIRE, PD, MED Renewed, No Decision On JUSTICE

Three out of four ain't bad. And the verdict on #4 is still out. NBC has renewed three of Dick Wolf’s four Chicago dramas, flagship CHICAGO FIRE as well as CHICAGO P.D. and CHICAGO MED. There is no decision yet on the newest entry in the franchise, freshman CHICAGO JUSTICE.

The renewal of this trio comes as no huge surprise as all three shows do very well on NBC. According to Entertainment Weekly, CHICAGO FIRE averaged 9.8 million viewers and 2.3 demo rating in Season 5, CHICAGO PD averaged 8.2 million viewers and a 1.9 rating in Season 4 while the sophomore season of CHICAGO MED averaged 9.3 million viewers and a 1.9 rating.

That being said, there had been some rumblings in recent weeks that one of the newer Chicago shows – CHICAGO MED or CHICAGO JUSTICE — might not continue. Which leaves the fate of the legal drama in a somewhat tenuous position. In its first season, JUSTICE has averaged a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 6.1 million viewers in Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers. While respectable, the rating makes it the lowest rated of the four “Chicago” dramas produced by Dick Wolf. NBC is expected to wait until after next week’s upfront presentation to decide whether it will be renewed or canceled. In the meantime, maybe it's time to fire up those CHICAGO JUSTICE episodes on your viewing platform of choice. You can start at nbc.com/chicago-justice

Nevertheless, it is a day to celebrate for the #OneChicago family, especially the mothership CHICAGO FIRE, which heads into next week's season finale as NBC’s second-highest-rated and most watched drama series behind breakout THIS IS US. Click here to catch up on the current season of FIRE and be sure to tune in for the finale next week at 9 pm Central on NBC.
