Baseball Comedy Pilot Shoots This Month

What better time and place for a baseball comedy pilot than summertime in sunny Chicago, a city still basking in the championship glow of its beloved Chicago Cubs. Chicago screenwriter/actor Christopher Biewer has teamed up with former studio executive DeAnna Cooper to bring the half hour comedy series VENDORS to life. The duo have inked Joel Murray (of MAD MEN fame and brother to Bill) to direct the pilot episode. Filming begins June 15th in and around the Chicagoland area. The comedy was inspired by vendor life at one of the most beloved ball fields in the nation, the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.

Biewer wrote the screenplay and will be joined in this cast by a slew of comedians/actors. Biewer's castmates include Tim Kazurinsky (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE), Erik Stolhanske (SUPER TROOPERS), Zoe Bell (HATEFUL EIGHT), Kim Dejesus (DHOOM 3) and famed stand-up comedian Emo Phillips. And it wouldn't be a baseball pilot with some notable baseball player cameos, and so former Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster will be appearing in the episode as well.

This will be Cooper's eighth produced project out of Chicago. Her fellow producers for VENDORS include Chicagoan Joe Klest, whose recent producer credits include SIGNATURE MOVE, which just made its world premiere at South By Southwest this spring, and THEY, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last month, and Pamela Sakowicz Menaker. Cooper's production company is co-owned by Kevin Cooper (EP, SECONDHAND LIONS).

So what's the plotline for VENDORS? At the most beloved baseball stadium in the nation, Kyle Ledecker, played by Biewer, is a reluctant vendor. Kyle returns to the crazy vendor world after losing his job and his girlfriend, but this is where he will find real friendship, life lessons and true love, despite being under the direct supervision of his childhood nemesis.
