Odd Machine Director James Mann was recently recognized by the James Beard Foundation with a nomination for Video and Technical Excellence for his work on Tastemade’s UNCHARTED Series. The first episode of the series ,presented by LL Bean, focused on Chef Erin French’s Lost Kitchen in Freedom, Maine.
The episode follows French and her life running a renowned restaurant in a remarkable, yet entirely remote, location. The effort she puts into her work from the reliance on locally sourced ingredients and the daily reimagining of the menu, to her highly evocative plating work is dutifully reflected in every shot. By the end of the 10 minute episode, Mann crafts a compelling narrative that captures French’s focus on her work and the importance of her relationship with the community and the landscape of Freedom, Maine.
“It is a delicate line to tread but each film searches for the heart of the brand and finds new, unique and impactful ways of communicating that to the viewer,” says Mann.
Odd Machine and Mann most recently wrapped another campaign for Jersey Mike’s Subs with Madison, WI based agency Planet Propaganda. Mann shot the first season of UNCHARTED last fall along with Odd Machine Executive Producer Elizabeth Collins; both of whom are based out of Odd Machine’s West Coast Office in LA’s Koreatown. Winners will be announced at The 2017 James Beard Foundation Broadcast Media awards on April 25th.
