Will QUEEN OF THE SOUTH Be Renewed?

WILL USA’S QUEEN OF THE SOUTH BE RENEWED?: USA’s gritty drama about a female Mexican drug lord operating out of Texas premiered this summer to lukewarm critics’ reviews. However, the Dallas, Texas-shot series has been holding its own in the ratings department. Its debut garnered 1.39 million viewers, prompting many to question whether a second season is likely.
Starring Alice Braga (I AM LEGEND, ELYSIUM) as drug lord Teresa Mendoza, the series is based on the best-selling novel “La Reina Del Sur,” by author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. Also inspired by the critically acclaimed novel, in 2011 the Telemundo network aired a widely popular, award-winning telenovela also titled La Reina Del Sur (which translates to Queen of the South in Spanish).
QUICK UPDATE ON AMC’S THE SON: Filming for the AMC series about the rise and fall of a Texas family during the birth of America, is well underway in Austin, TX this summer. But there has been a big casting change, as Pierce Brosnan has replaced Sam Neill as the series’ lead actor. Neill left the series back in June for “personal reasons.” Brosnan has slid neatly right into Neill’s shoes as he takes over the role of Eli McCullough, the patriarch of the Texas family. He has clearly been doing his research, as he has been spotted all over Austin, sampling all of the Capital City’s restaurants and watering holes and enjoying the hot Texas summer. Be sure to tune into AMC for THE SON’s premiere in April of 2017.
FOUND FOOTAGE 3D PREMIERES TO RAVE REVIEWS AT BRUCE CAMPBELL’S HORROR FILM FESTIVAL: Texas-made indie meta horror/comedy film, FOUND FOOTAGE 3D, had its world premiere a few weeks ago in Chicago and was met with a raving critical reception. Multiple reviews (including those from horror genre bloggers) have already stated emphatically that it is the best found footage film since THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and many are saying it's tongue-in-cheek meta humor makes it the SCREAM of the found footage genre. FF3D is written and directed by Steven DeGennaro and produced by Charles Mulford and Kim Henkel (the co-writer and producer of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE). FOUND FOOTAGE 3D is about five indie filmmakers who go to a haunted cabin with the intention of making the world’s first ever 3D found footage film, only to become the casualties and stars in their own film.
FF3D was loved by the Bruce Campbell team and was even presented with the first ever Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival Jury Award. Following its World Premiere in Chicago, FF3D made its international debut in London at the Horror Channel FrightFest, where it was met with a warm reception across the pond as well.
Fingers crossed this unique take on a genre film which will appeal to mass audiences and 3D enthusiasts, as well as the horror genre fans and will get distribution soon, enabling everyone to see it on the big screen in a wide theatrical release. Check out the trailer here.
