Producers Ashley Adams and Stephen Hens have signed an exclusive 12-month agreement to develop a reality television project for the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL). A full-tackle league, the IWFL offers a positive, safe and fun environment for women who play football, and a fun experience for the families coming out to watch them. The IWFL provides women the opportunity to play tackle football nationwide. The non-profit organization also allows women and men alike the opportunity to coach, manage and even own a sports team in order to further this opportunity for female athletes.
“The story behind this league and the stories of the women who participate in the sport are intense,” said Adams. “Going behind the scenes, finding out what inspires the organizers, players, and fans, is going to open a lot of peoples’ eyes. This isn’t golf or volleyball, it’s rough and raw. As a woman business owner, I’d been looking for a project to produce that might be the physical equivalent of what women go through in the professional world, and this is it! It’s going to make for great television.”
“We’re excited to have an opportunity to introduce the world to the players, coaches and team owners that are making women’s tackle football a reality,” said Laurie Frederick, IWFL Chief Executive Officer. “The league’s history is filled with amazing highs and heartbreaking lows, but throughout it all the game has given us all much more than we ever could have imagined. Those are the stories we look forward to sharing. People will be surprised to learn who plays football and what they go through to make it happen. Many people don’t understand why women would want to play this sport. This is their chance to see what it’s all about.”
Adams and Hens’ production and post-production credits include an array of projects, including CNN Heroes, Discovery Channel’s “Through the Wormhole” starring Morgan Freeman, “Single Ladies” (VH1), “That Girl” Pilot (MTV Networks), “The Idiot Hall of Fame” Pilot (Spike TV), music videos for Black Label Society (Artisan Records), the features Gardens of the Night (Lions Gate Films) and Triple Dog (Well Go Entertainment), commercial projects for Nissan, Ford, and this past summer’s high-profile and highly effective “IFAW Save The Whales Now” PSA featuring Pierce Brosnan.
The team is producing a teaser presentation and will begin pitching the series to networks shortly.
